NTD (Neglected Tropical Diseases), Tanzania project is one of the world’s largest mHealth application implemented under the initiative of NIMR (National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Tanzania and in association with Imperial School of London. NTD is a mobile- web-desktop application developed to eradicate the NTDs persisting in Tanzania which claims to have affected over 1 billion people across the world. The NTD Tanzania project involving the MDA (Mass Drug Administration) and M&E (Monitoring & Evaluation) programmes achieved through a never before experimented platform via mobile remains to be the major attraction of the project. The unique Management Information System (MIS) using web-mobile convergent technology has been put in place for effective implementation and analysis of NTDs prevalent in Tanzania.

The project consists of the following:

• MDA Program - Mass Drug Administration Programme has a survey phase, where the Health workers will conduct household surveys once in five years and collect information. The drug distribution and supply chain management at the national and district level and the Mass Drug administration programme will include physical administration of the prescribed medicines to the affected persons and capturing details of the intake such as drug name, quantity in numbers, status, remarks etc to the same register.

• Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) - This is another module of the programme, managed by NIMR MOH team. This is primarily planned to study the disease distribution, analysis, and to analyze the impact of the MDA programme, after its conducted. This study would be based on samples, carried out in selected regions, districts and villages. A team from NIMR MOH will conduct the survey.
